No Hot Dog Buns?

A couple weeks ago, remote control took over, and I decided we'd have hot dogs for dinner on Sunday night. Ex grew up eating HDs and watching "Wonderful World of Disney" and instituted the same ritual in our house. Despite the fact that I hated hot dogs, I had to cook them. Ugh. Until I discovered skinless all beef hot dogs and cooked them with fried onions. So on this remote control night of recent vintage, I went off to the grocery store for my daily trip (see comments) to pick up some buns. But there aren't any. Anywhere. No off brands. No Expensive brands. No potato rolls for goodness sakes. WTH? No it wasn't Memorial day weekend. It wasn't even a particularly sunny, pleasant weekend. It was just a Sunday night. And there were no hot dog buns. In a great, big, chain grocery store. And I realize just how spoiled and demanding I can be when something as silly as missing hot dog buns gets my knickers in a twist....

I too end up at the grocery store TOO many times. I swear we should just have the paycheck written over to the store. I switch between 2 different ones though....just so they don't think I am a stalker.
BTW. You are a fancy cook. I usually just use a slice of bread when I make hot dogs.
Also.....the only HD's I'll eat are Nathan's dogs. They really are goooooood.

Oh, I forgot to really gross you out about HD's....when I was a kid....we ate them raw/cold.

There's nothing wrong with a hot dog off the grill. As long as you don't think about what they are made from, enjoy the moment. As for me, I prefer Sabretts hot dogs and half the time I'll eat them right off the grill (with my fingers) with no bun at all.

NATHAN'S! Thanks Suz. That was the brand name that eluded me. I'll only eat Nathan's skinless all beef dogs....and yeah, the cold/raw dog thing is nasty...

We had the same ritual (but with no hot dogs, instead I'm sure my mom made some tofu-y thing), but still -- the memories!

We've been on a hot dog binge over here -- maybe everyone else, too, and that's why they were out of buns.

At least you didn't go to the store and forget something that was already written on your list. I've done that an embarrassing number of times these last few years.

As a child, we used to eat hotdogs so often....off the grill, boiled in water, cold right out of the fridge (suz was not the only one!!), cooked on a fondue stick over the gas range!!
Sometime in junior high, we saw the video that showed exactly how those lovely little cylinders of meat (using the term very lightly!) were made and after that...no...no thank you...none for me.
Now, for me..hotdogs are to be eaten at ourdoor sporting events and from a vendor in New York City...and on occasion, when camping or at a picnic~~but only if you cooked it yourself, over the fire, on a coat hanger!!!

We can get hotdogs here...and the buns...but as my oldest said a couple of years ago when we were in the States..."they are just different, aren't they, momma?"!!!
