Wishing the Peace of the Weekend Carried through the Week

Probably like many of you, I wish I could find a way to have the peace of the weekend continue through the week.

Wait, I think I've figured it out - quit my job. Ok, so that's not practical either. I mean, we have the whole food, shelter, clothing, college thing to think about. So the Job is rather a necessity.

So other ideas? This weekend was one of those perfect weekends - a day in Baltimore enjoying the aquarium and the dolphin show, making faces at Sharks, running away from snakes (don't tell me it doesn't count if they're behind glass. They're still terrifying to me). Playing games at ESPNzone, laughing our butts off riding mechanical horses and playing air hockey. Cooking the perfect dinner at home with little planning, playing games by the fire. Teaching Sunday School, enjoying the perfect 2 hour brunch at Mrs. K's toll house, picking up sticks in the sunny afternoon and feeling the accomplishment of a cleaner yard, watching movies and cuddling on the couch, hiking at Great Falls. Yeah it was one of those weekends.

Until about 9pm when BossMan and I had a conference call and started setting up the week. And I realized I have to go to NYC this week whether I want to or not (NOT). Wondering how to get it all done and be back for Friday's appointment. Realizing your team may have forgotten to serve something yesterday that you had prearranged Friday night but someone might have decided to change that plan. Facing documents and travels and treadmills. Sigh.

So yeah, how do we carry the peace of the weekend with us through the stresses of the week? Anyone?

I think you just have to realize that this is the way life goes and be thankful you got the weekend--which sounds really great.

I agree w/ Jenn. Lucky to have the good weekend....life is hectic...but you always seem to manage whatever is thrown at you. :)
You did not know there were snakes in Florida? then I won't tell you about the gators and iguanas. nope, not telling you anything like that. :)

Glad you had such a glorious weekend. I must admit, my was pretty sweet, too. Especially given that it was 5 days long!!! We had a couple of holidays and a teacher institute day that I took off, so it was a much needed mini vacation. I got to spend a lot of time with Stud Muffin, a got a ton of things done around the house that I've been neglecting, and I wasn't completely exhausted by working at the bar Saturday, because my brother finally pulled his weight that night! ;-) But, here I am, back to the grind, and it's going to be a hell of a week. Today is my long day (job #1 and job #2) then it's home to do a top-to-bottom house cleaning, as I'm having a bunch of people over tomorrow night for dinner (girls I went to grad school with). That means I have to rush home from work tomorrow to shop, cook and get ready for company, then Thursday, long day again (Job #1 & #2) rush home, grab the dog, drop him at the vet on the way to a hair appointment, then hopefully try to prepare something for Friday, which is the 100th Day of School. This is HUGE! Friday will be chock-full of activities, games, partying, etc, then Friday night, I'm having a Mary Kay party, which means running home to do more cleaning and cooking, etc. Sheesh, I'm exhausted from just typing it all out!!

The point is, I feel ya, sista, I feel ya!!!

Life is what it is, and you can't pick what happens to you most of the time. I kind of figure that the best you can do is dance to the beat of the music that's played for you. Some days are waltzes, other days are rap, other days are jigs, sometimes you get lucky and it's a passionate tango. One way or another, ya gotta dance, but it's up to you to bring the grace to each rhythm.

I once read somewhere that when a teenager was being particularly obnoxious, her mom reminded her, "You only get one chance at today and then it's gone. There are no do-overs." Even on weekdays.

Why are weekends great? Because we spend most of the time doing things we like. For me I just step out everyday to do something I like. Even if it's just watch a feel good movie after the kids have gone to sleep, or treating myself to some sweets. I think we forget that sometimes. The weekday can be for us to enjoy as well . It just takes a little more effort and thought but well worth it.

When you get the answer, please let me know ASAP! Meanwhile, taking an occasional break outside often helps, even if it's just dawdling en route to the next meeting or peeking out the window.
