A new Discovery and narrowly avoiding Stitches

Once Upon a time I had a nice, new, sharp set of these:

But alas, over time they became very very dull and couldn't even cut this...

I tried stone and various sharpeners, but to no avail. My kitchen guests and fellow chefs complained, until I found this:

And voila, in 15 minutes I sharpened every single knife in my house to a perfect, razor sharp edge, knives as good as new. Except I forgot and while cutting this in my hand
I was reminded just how sharp the knives were, as one sliced swiftly through the entire avocado and right through this in 0.2 seconds....

It's only bleeding a little now....

edited to add: this whole incident had me cracking up b/c it is is so typical of a day in my kitchen! My cooking episode is not complete without a burn or a cut. No worries!

Don't you love it when you take the time to do things right and it comes back to bite you in the ass?? Glad the bleeding stopped :)

Oh, that hurts. Really, as I read this, my finger started to hurt and it is bleeding a bit. Be careful. You are lucky it was mended by a bruised ego and a band aid. :)

Owww! That is always a fear of mine, especially because I have extremely sharp knives in my kitchen. Hope you're not in too much pain :(

You just reminded me that I really need one of those knife sharpeners.

Hope your finger heals quick!

I always burn myself too.

Not that I cook.

I wouldn't want anyone to think that of me.

Sounds like me. My hubby always makes fun of me for burning myself or cutting myself because I do it all the time!!! Do you put your knives in the dishwasher? That dulls them. We ruined a knife set by doing that.

I got that exact sharpener for a wedding gift 20 years ago, and it's still going strong. However, as you've discovered, it really works! Please be careful!

I keep diaper ointment in my kitchen for burns and general first aid. My family thinks I'm nuts for having diaper ointment and no diaper wearing members of the family, but they appreciate it when they get a burn. Oh wait, that's me that appreciates it. Because I'm the one that gets burned (or the food does)

word verf: otsit - otsit, i'm getting a new set of knives, these suck!

Now I want that sharpener--I take mine in to get them done.

I'm glad no professional intervention was required.

I am famous for not cutting the fingers, but burning my arms constantly while taking stuff out of the oven. I have scars on the inside of both damn arms.

I think its hereditary.
