When Captain Meets the Ex

You knew it was bound to happen. I live next door to my ex (what you thought that was just a catchy blog title?!)

The divorce is long past final.

The kids are accepting the fact that mom is "moving on."

So for valentine's weekend, the Captain came to visit me [he lives 1000 miles away.] I told the kids he was coming (they've met him briefly previously and know I talk to him on the phone a lot). Son even helped me clean the house and prepare for the Captain's arrival, all the way down to making the guest bed up for the Captain.....****

As I may have mentioned it was a glorious weekend. So much fun stuff.

Then Sunday afternoon we were picking up limbs and cleaning up my yard from the numerous storms when ex pulls in next door. And comes out back with Dumb Runaway Dog. And Daughter comes out with Stinky. And I'm there picking up sticks with a handsome friend. Daughter chatted and told stories. Ex had some mental telepathy thing going with DRD because she was done with her business in 30 seconds and they were back in the house.

Captain said, completely innocently and thoughtfully, "I was going to go over and shake his hand and introduce myself. But I wasn't sure if that would be a good idea."

Um no. Pretty sure that would've been a bad idea. Ex hasn't spoken a word to me since. Not that he normally would anyway. But things have gotten a tad icier around here.....

Poor old curmudgeon...

****Kids were with the Ex for the weekend - Son just happened to be around Friday tohelp me get ready...

He sees that you have moved on, but cannot bring himself to accept that he must move on himself. It may get icier, but it helps the thaw later. Because ex has now seen the Captain, the separation is now very real. I would hate to hear the self-talk going on in his head right now.

Yah, cuz you have some nerve dating a nice good-lookin man.
Know what would be really kickin? If the Captain wore a jaunty hat like the captain from captain and teneel (or how ever u spell her name).
No, not kickin, stupid. Then you couldn't date his dorky azz. Things balance out in the long run.

I can't exactly say it in my own blog, but I can say it here...I envy your life. I may be heading down a similar path with mr.-father-of-our-twins... and next door seems like a good idea.

That is, until the captain is in town...oy. :)

Amazing how that "i don't want to be with her but i don't want anyone else to either" works for men at any age!! ugh!

The Captain sounds like a keeper. Good social instincts, and brave, too, for planning to introduce himself.

Ex is always going to be a big baby about everything it seems. You are moving on, and in a most positive direction. The captain has class and he has brains. Awesome.
Does ex still read this???

The faison in me would have called over to him and said "Hey K". Then I would have made up a random thing that would have forced him to answer...like "Is DRD over the chocolate?", or "Remember that the Kids have XXXX this week", or "Can you make sure the Kids get home AFTER I take The Captain Back to the Airport"...or something to force him to respond. But that is just the faison in me. (Or perhaps that is the bitch in me....whatever!) LOL! You certainly have a keeper in El Capitano!

Thanks for stopping by, not known by the blog world yet, but My John is also a Captain. I promise you sometimes the sand is overwhelming. Hope you got just a tad of satisfaction from this incident. You deserve it. Been a reader since your first post!

So THAT'S what that temperature drop was - we felt it in Seattle!

Love the pic of you and the Captain in your sidebar, smokin'!

It probably feels good to have that over with.

Next time be sure to make out with the Captain on the front lawn when you know the Ex is going for a walk or will drive by....better yet, go for a nice brisk walk together and be sure to admire flowers across the street from the exes house with a large kiss...he may need reminding that after 19 years you have moved on. LOL! (If you think I am serious then you must be more mental than me hee hee!) xo
