You Live WHERE?

I don't know about the rest of the country, but the east coast has some weird towns.  OK maybe the towns aren't weird, but the names are.  And it makes you wonder about the people who decide to live there.

Here are but a few examples of real towns I have been to ...

Belchertown.  Is their town motto "Got Gas?"

Hohokus.  It's like someone sneezed when they were saying hocus pokus.

Mineral.  I think it's located between "animal" and "vegetable."

Lizard Lick.  OK I haven't really been here but it's in North Carolina and I can't believe anyone lives there...

Oh yes, I have discovered there are websites devoted to the bizarre names we give our towns.

But my personal fav? And YES I have been there....

Bumpass.

who the hell would voluntarily live in Bumpass?

Got any strange town names you've visited recently??

Yup, there is a Lizard Lick here but the one that gets my vote is Hornytown. I kid you not.

Our names aren't so much weird as impossible for someone not living on the border pronounce. How would you say "Jamacha"?

There's Accident, MD. I drove through it once. Also, Scaggsville, MD

My kids just recently learned that Kalamazoo really exists and they think that's hilarious.
There's a tiny town in North Florida called Two Egg.

Dysfuncational Mom - YES I used to fly in an out of Kalamazoo - love saying that name!

And Intercourse, how could I forget? I have been there. literally.

And Weed - well that's almost expected, right?

And I think Scaggsville is right up there with Belchertown (and I have been through Scaggsville, too. I refuse to stop, however)

We have plenty of odd ones up here in Canada. The one that always comes to mind first is Dildo, in Newfoundland/Labrador.
