Skinny and Bitchy or Fat and Happy?

It seems that is my choice lately - skinny and bitchy or fat and happy.

Warning Warning this post may be TMI for you! Don't say I didn't warn you - although I doubt I can come up with great code-rhymes like BlogthisMom

About a year ago I started having an internal thermometer meltdown issue. You know, one minute you're cold (used to be me, all the time) the next minute you're sweating bullets. Hmmm. I'm in my early 40's. Really, at my age? I asked my sisters who said, "REALLY."

Damned.

So on my visit to my Girly Doctor, I mentioned this, along with my bitchiness (not all of it can be blamed on the Ex). And my teariness. (ditto). So she said, "Try the Pill." Huh? At my age? Dangers? etc etc? We discussed it and she said, "Try it." So I did.

And? Internal Thermometer FIXED! Temperament BETTER! Tears WHEN APPROPRIATE! Woot!

Fast forward 6 months. Inexplicable weight gain? 10 pounds.

Fast forward 9 months. Inexplicable weight gain? 15 pounds.

Remember, I was running (up til the Knee Thing) about 20 - 30 miles a week. Hmmm.

So, a month ago, I tossed the pills.

Weight loss? (without running b/c of Knee thing) 9 pounds and counting.

Internal Thermometer? Totally broken. Tears? Daily. Bitchiness? Oh you don't want to know, but I pretty much had to put a "Beware of Rabid dog" warning sign on my office door.....

I know I know, I should go back to the Dr, get a second opinion, consult a specialist. really? When. I am bad. about. doctors. I hate them. I don't have time.

So which would you choose? fat and happy or skinny and bitchy? [keep in mind my 25 year high school reunion is in 1 month!!] And no you can't choose "Go to a dr." Which I might. No I won't. Yes I will. Ok maybe.

Ohh girl this is a tough one...I am always a fan of fat and happy. Birth control saves me from the worst cramping ever so unless I want to spend 1 week out of the month completely useless, I'm all for birth control, Maybe try something lower dose?

I choose drinking. Heh. What about HRT? I know it's not the "thing" now but 40's seems really young. You could try it just until after the reunion! ;-)

I'm trying to not be fat and bitchy but that's just homework...

Fat and happy's worked for me most of my life! ;-)

You've seen me--I vote for fat and happy. But honestly? I've seen you--even 10 lbs. more wouldn't make you fat. So your choice is just "not as thin and happy" and I'd definitely go for that!

Just an FYI, my A went through 6 months of random emotional breakdowns when she was a junior in HS. She would just start sobbing, for no particular reason. She went to 3 different doctors that could not figure out what was happening, her pediatrician, a heart doctor and an internal medicine. the pediatrician even thought we were possibly abusing her.

One day, she was discussing her issue with a friend at school where a teacher overheard. The teacher immediately said she needed to see her female doc and get on the pill.

She went on one pill and it worked, with the same results you are seeing. She asked for a different version because of the side effects, changed brands and has not had any problems since.

I will give you her phone number if you want to talk with her. I am just saying.

I vote - um - get a different prescription!!!!! Not a big fan of HRT as I had one of my besties pop up with Breast Cancer 6 months after starting HRT (and three weeks before they announced the link between HRT and BC). You don't have to be miserable - and you don't have to be fat (even though the rest of the world would say you aren't - I understand how it feels when you think you are!).

I can't choose for YOU. But I would take the fat and happy for me. Actually, I DID. Being on the pill saves me days of pain and feeling like I am going to hemorrhage.

I agree with Jen. You can hide 10 pounds, hell 20, EASILY. The weather in CT is COLD (TFC according to niece) so you will have to layer anyway. But it makes sense to check out another version of the pill with fewer side effects. I just went to L's ## reunion and I remember their personalities better than how they looked. Some of them should have taken the pill...

I'd spend the next month being skinny and bitchy and then go back to the doctor after the reunion.

There are a variety of options. You don't have to settle for the first one. I say this as a new member of the menopause club.

I take the pill to help control migraines of all things. Keeping those hormones in check.
I have chosen about 5 extra pounds and happy...but I so so agree with the other posters. There are really low dose pills (eg Ortho 1/35) out there that will give you the fix up you need without the extra fat part! Go get that perscrption changed.
Best of luck!

I'm totally working the "fat and happy" right now!

Probably fat and happy is better. I can't tolerate any kind of Pill, so for me it's fat and grumpy... Well, not seriously fat, but that weight is just naturally creeping up with age. Bah.

Fix the moods! My friend moved 700 miles from her mom because mom didn't seek another option and the insanity drove a wedge between them. There are other solutions to the problem. You could try stuff like Remifemin or a different pill. Hell yoga might help even. Plus it won't kill your knee nearly as much as the running will. The yoga takes getting used to though, just fair warning.

I can't really advise since I seem to be stuck on fat and bitchy.

Is there a pill for skinny and happy? Cuz I SO WOULD SIGN UP FOR THAT!

My word vert was: sucting. Really blogger? Really? Is there something you are trying to tell me?

can i just jump in a say pretty much what many others have said...fatt and happy are working great for me, too! but, you really could go get a different dosage...i've heard tell of others doing just that!
If your bitchy is anything like MY bitchy, i'm sure your family would also say 'fat and happy' 'cause, honey...i am NOT a fun camper to be around on or around my period.

sigh.

This is soooooooo not fair.

But, for the sake of your loved ones, I think I would have to suggest fat and happy. They don't care if you're 15 pounds over. They'd much rather have you happy.

But there must be a way to be skinny AND happy.

What if you give eveyone around the pill. Then they will be SUPER HAPPY, all the while you are Fat and happy!!!

LOL! I gave up trying to figure it out. Getting old does have its advantages. I wouldn't mind being skinny, but I'm over kiling myself to try and make it happen. Good luck figuring out your thing! LOL!
